Warp’s new system is an out-of-the-box software factory for AI development

According to Warp CEO Zach Lloyd, the heavy lifting involved in orchestrating AI agents is often underestimated.
“[If you look at] things like running your agents in the cloud and steering those agents as they run, or bringing the work that they’re doing into your local environment, or setting up memory that goes across those agents, or setting up evals that go across those agents — it’s actually a huge infrastructure undertaking to do this right.”
How Warp Factories Works
Warp Factories provides a pre-built architecture that handles the most challenging aspects of agent orchestration. By standardizing the phases of software development—triage, specification, implementation, review, and verification—the system allows teams to automate any or all of these steps.
Key features of the platform include:
- Model Agnostic: Users are not locked into a single provider; the system supports various coding models, from Codex to Claude Code.
- Workflow Integration: Seamless connectivity with existing tools, including Linear and Jira for ticketing, and Slack and Teams for communication.
- Performance Analytics: Managers gain visibility into factory efficiency, allowing for side-by-side comparisons of different agent configurations and real-time tracking of token expenditure.
- Self-Optimization: The platform includes loops designed to automate process management, enabling the system to improve its own performance over time.
Augmentation, Not Replacement
Despite the high level of automation, Warp is positioning its new system as a collaborative tool rather than a replacement for human engineers. The goal is to provide developers with a more efficient way to manage an "agentic workforce" while keeping human expertise in the loop for critical decision-making.
Lloyd notes that at Warp, the current reality of AI-assisted development is a hybrid model. “We automate like 30% of our tasks, 30 to 35% on a weekly basis,” he shared. “And as models improve, as the context improves, as the harness improves, I think that that number is going to go up over time.”
By providing the infrastructure for these agentic loops, Warp is effectively lowering the barrier to entry for companies looking to modernize their engineering workflows. As the ecosystem matures, Warp Factories offers a ready-made roadmap for teams aiming to scale their output without sacrificing the quality or oversight required in professional software development.
