NVIDIA Joins NSF State and Regional AI Hubs Program to Expand AI Research and Education Across the US

In a significant move to democratize access to high-performance computing, NVIDIA has officially joined the U.S. National Science Foundation’s (NSF) State and Regional Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Hubs program. This initiative, which launches today, aims to bridge the gap in AI-enabled research and education by providing institutions across the country with the necessary software, data, and advanced computing expertise.

Aligned with the broader objectives of the Genesis Mission, the program is designed to empower state and multistate consortia of colleges and universities. By fostering collaboration between private industry, philanthropic entities, and government bodies, the initiative seeks to fortify the American AI ecosystem from the ground up.

Democratizing Access to AI Infrastructure

The core mission of these regional hubs is to bring sophisticated computing resources directly to the communities and institutions that need them most. By pooling expertise and resources, regional consortia can achieve significant economies of scale, ensuring that smaller or rural institutions are not left behind in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

That collaboration transformed UF into a premier AI-centric university, providing comprehensive compute access to all public universities in Florida.

Since that initiative began, the results have been transformative:

  • Faculty Growth: UF has expanded to over 300 AI-focused faculty members.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Integration: AI education and research are now embedded across all 16 of the university's colleges.
  • Research Funding: Since 2017, UF units have secured more than $511 million in AI-related research awards.

This new NSF program also builds upon the momentum of the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) pilot, where NVIDIA served as a primary contributor, helping researchers translate raw computing power into tangible scientific breakthroughs.
