Gudea leverages AI to help organizations prevent social media crises before they erupt

In the modern digital landscape, a single post—whether it contains AI-generated fabrications, hate speech, or a viral rumor—can ignite a firestorm of controversy in a matter of hours. Gudea, a startup positioning itself as the "storm tracker for the internet," is deploying advanced artificial intelligence to help organizations identify and neutralize these digital threats before they escalate into full-blown public relations disasters.

Beyond Traditional Social Listening

While legacy social listening platforms focus on surface-level metrics like hashtag volume, impression counts, and mention tallies, Gudea takes a fundamentally different approach. The company’s platform is designed to decode the mechanics of online discourse. By analyzing behavioral patterns, interpersonal relationships, and the specific pathways information takes across more than 500 mainstream and fringe platforms—including X, Reddit, and TikTok—Gudea provides the context necessary for high-stakes decision-making.

"These big industries don’t understand that there are things they can do proactively to defend their reputation and their brand. A lot of the chief communications officers and chief media or marketing officers, they’re using legacy tools to try to figure out what’s happening. Those tools were only ever designed to tell you the number of hashtags or number of impressions."

— Keith Presley, CEO and founder of Gudea

Gudea made its case for a more proactive reputation management strategy this week on the Startup Battlefield stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026.

From Intelligence Roots to Corporate Defense

The origins of Gudea are rooted in the George Washington Initiative, a nonprofit formed following the 2020 election. The founding team—CEO Keith Presley, Chief Strategy Officer Jonathan Sperber, and CTO James Thomin—adapted methodologies originally developed by the intelligence community to disrupt extremist networks like ISIS and Al Qaeda. By applying these tactical frameworks to domestic information campaigns, the team sought to identify how narratives gain momentum and how to disrupt the channels that allow them to reach mass audiences.

The founders realized that existing commercial tools were insufficient for mapping the movement of information across complex social ecosystems. This realization led to the formal launch of Gudea in 2023. The leadership team brings a diverse range of expertise to the table:

  • Keith Presley: Over 15 years of experience in political campaigning and defense infrastructure.
  • Jonathan Sperber: A specialist in the field of disinformation research.
  • James Thomin: A Ph.D. in chemical engineering with two decades of experience in machine learning and AI.

A Growing Client Base and the AI Threat

Three years after its inception, Gudea has secured a diverse portfolio of nearly 40 clients. This roster includes Fortune 50 retailers and telecommunications firms, one of the world’s largest AI laboratories, major musical acts, and various government agencies.

The urgency for such technology has surged alongside the proliferation of generative AI. Presley notes that the barrier to entry for launching coordinated online campaigns has plummeted; what once required a massive organization can now be executed by a single individual with a laptop and the right software.

  • The Inauthenticity Shift: When the team began their work in 2021, they observed inauthentic activity in roughly 25% of the cases they analyzed. Today, that figure has climbed to approximately 90%.

Future Roadmap and Financial Backing

Gudea is not resting on its current capabilities. The company is actively developing "narrative geolocation" technology, slated for release next year. This feature aims to provide users with the ability to pinpoint the origin and spread of conversations with extreme precision, potentially down to the city-block level. Furthermore, the company plans to offer "pre-launch" analysis, allowing brands to test advertising campaigns against Gudea’s AI models to predict potential negative sentiment before a campaign goes live.

The company’s growth trajectory is supported by a strong financial foundation. Last week, Gudea announced the closing of a $7 million seed funding round co-led by Mudita Venture Partners and Silicon Road Ventures. This latest infusion of capital brings the startup’s total funding to approximately $15 million, signaling strong investor confidence in their mission to bring order to the chaotic digital information environment.
