AI coding startup Cognition reportedly already in talks to raise at $40B valuation
A Rapid Ascent in AI Valuation
Cognition, the developer behind the pioneering AI coding agent Devin, is reportedly back at the negotiating table with investors. Just months after securing a massive $1 billion funding round that valued the company at $26 billion in May, the startup is eyeing a significant valuation jump. According to recent reports, the company is aiming for a valuation of at least $40 billion, a milestone predicated on reaching an annualized revenue run rate of $1 billion.
Growth and Enterprise Adoption
The company’s momentum remains aggressive. During its previous raise, CEO Scott Wu confirmed that Cognition had hit a $492 million annualized revenue run rate. Furthermore, enterprise engagement with Devin has surged, with usage metrics climbing by 50% month-over-month consistently over the last half-year.
"Devin is not being sold as a human replacement," says CEO Scott Wu.
Strategic Utility in the Enterprise
Rather than aiming to displace developers, Devin has carved out a niche by automating tedious, long-tail technical tasks. Its primary value proposition involves:
- Updating legacy software systems.
- Migrating complex applications between platforms.
- Handling repetitive grunt-work disliked by human engineers.
This focus has attracted a high-profile client roster, including industry giants such as NASA, Mercedes-Benz, and Goldman Sachs.
